GINGER JAR – SASHIKO
BLOCK OF THE MONTH

(Asian fabrics and sashiko designs will vary from those shown.)

I'm really excited about our next Block of the Month to start off the new year.  Our 2011 Asian Block of the Month Quilt is a Ginger Jar- Sashiko quilt.  It will consist of 6 appliqué Ginger Jars (easy fusible method), and 6 blocks with a Sashiko design for you to transfer and stitch. 

If you don't want to do sashiko, you could also do a machine embroidery design or add extra ginger jars.

Each month you will receive the instructions and all the fabrics to make the quilt block.  With the last block in December, you will receive the lighter Delft Blue sashing fabric and the Indigo Blue outer border fabric to complete your quilt top.  The only fabric you will need to supply is the binding and backing fabrics.  You can also make the quilt larger by adding an additional outside border.

(Sorry - my scan shows the inner borders as Turquoise but it is really Delft Blue to go with the Indigo.)

You will also need:  Approximately 1 yard of Steam-A-Seam2 for appliquéing the Ginger Jars, transfer paper for transferring the Sashiko design to the fabric, and Sashiko thread and needle.

You may also purchase an optional embellishment package to decorate your Ginger Jars with the Chinese coin and gold tassel.  The embellishment package is $2.00 each,   Other suggestions to embellish your Ginger Jars:  Decorate with Hot Ribbon, beads and charms. 

If you don’t want to satin stitch around the Ginger Jar, add Hot Ribbon for a clean, neat, elegant finish.

Do I need to attend a meeting to get my block?  No – we do not make you attend a meeting. 

HOWEVER – You must come in and pick up your own block.  Our goal is to stay in touch with our customers and for our customers to enjoy working with our fabrics.  Please do not send your husband, wife, neighbor, friend, child or pet to pick up your block.  If you do not feel you will be able to pick up your own block, please do not sign up.  

I want to make my quilt larger, can I sign up for two or three?  Of course you can! 

My friend would like to sign up but she can't travel to the store, what can she do?  She can either sign up to receive the Block of the Month by mail or you can sign up for two and then give one to her.

The Block of the Month also makes a great gift for your favorite quilting buddy.

What if I can’t come in on the first Saturday?  That’s okay – we’ll hold the kit for you.  We realize that working schedules, illness and vacations sometimes cause scheduling conflicts.  However, you must pick up your kit by the end of the month (i.e., the June kit no later than June 30th) or your participation will be cancelled unless you notify us of your special circumstances.  You can rejoin and start back up where you left off by paying $5.00 for each kit you missed to bring you current with the other members.

Can I participate in the Block of the Month by mail?  Yes. The cost is a one-time fee of $65.00 for the whole year, which includes shipping the fabric kits to you each month.  Block Kits are mailed to you after the first Saturday of each month.
