Greetings Everyone

We are finally getting our summer here in the Pacific NW and it has been HOT here the last few days with temps in the 80's.  That is quite warm for us here where cool and damp in the norm.

If you want HOT take a look at the new Batiks  that arrived!  Twenty new gorgeous Batiks in hot oranges and pinks.  The purple and blue jewel tones are also stunning so take a look.  I think these are some of the most beautiful  Batiks  we've received in quite some time.

You'll also find new arrivals in the Oriental fabric section.  Scenic cards in different shapes have koi, cranes, kanji and scenes of Japan.   Mahjong Tile fabric is back in a new colorway, and we added a new metallic scroll in several colorways that makes a great coordinating fabric.

Looking for a new floral print or just the right background?  Take a look in the Coordinates section.  New arrivals include tropical orchids, small primroses, marbleized prints, and Background Blush including rich Aubergine, Dark Plum, and  Spruce.

If you're looking to be a little on the wild side, take a look at the new Tiger fabrics the Jungle section, In addition to these stunning large Tiger faces, you'll find coordinating Tigers in Clouds and Tiger Stripes.

I'm really excited that we are now able to provide our Sashiko enthusiasts with the same fabric that the pre-printed samplers are made from.  This is the same light weight cotton fabric, plain with no design, and comes 13" wide, the same width as the samplers.  It's great for adding additional borders, sashing or creating your own sashiko designs.   It would also be suitable for baby clothes, hand embroidery, and projects where you need a light weight cotton fabric.

We have the dark navy, white and sage green in stock now and the other colors will be arriving from Japan at the end of the month.

Sashiko Samplers & Fabric

I often get asked what's the easiest way to draw a sashiko design on fabric to use in a garment or for a quilt.  Transferring a design by graphing it out or using dressmaker's carbon paper can be quite labor intensive so I prefer using a design stencil and a Clover 517 marking pen or an Ultimate Quilt Pounce.  We offer a large selection of stencils and several new designs have been recently added including the Dahlia, Curls, Rose Stipple, Ocean Motion and Follow the Swallow.

New in the Needle Arts section is the arrival of Presencia Size 5 Pearl Cotton in both solid and variegated colors.

In addition to various embroidery uses, Size 5 Pearl Cotton is also great for making Temari Balls.

Just a reminder that if you haven't turned in your Pet Block for our contest, please do so soon.  What's the Pet Block Contest?   Just create any 12 1/2" unfinished quilt block and feature a picture of your favorite pet or an animal that you would really like to honor.  You can use Printed Treasures and print your picture on fabric, or create your animal picture in appliqué or embroidery.  Use any technique you wish to create your pet block.

When you turn in your quilt block bring a can of food as your entry fee which we'll donate to a local food bank.

At the end of July, we'll have all the quilt blocks on display and have our customers vote for their favorite block.  The winner will receive a $50.00 Shibori Dragon Gift Certificate.

When the contest is done, we'll take all the blocks submitted and have them sewn into a quilt which we'll donate to Children's Hospital.

Long Beach here we come!

We hope to see you next week in Long Beach, California.   You can find information regarding the Long Beach show on the Quilts, Inc. website:
