This classic jacket in three lengths and with front or asymmetrical opening is descended from a formal court robe of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Since then, the garment has been simplified into a truly versatile design with different options for unusual closures. Pattern includes heat transfer design for traditional embroidered motifs and instructions for embroidery.
This version on the right of the Chinese Jacket shows how the choice of fabric can result in a special garment, with having to add any other embellishment. It is made from two coordinated cross-dyed cottons, in which the warp or lengthwise threads are solid colors (blue green for the jacket body and olive green for the neckband) and the weft or crosswise threads are metallic gold. Combining fabrics is easy, creative, and makes fabric-shopping a lot of fun.
