Japanese furoshiki are used for gift wrapping and transporting items while shopping. While these furoshiki are smaller than the larger ones used in Japan for shopping, they are widely used for decorating as small wall hangings, placemats, pillow tops and quilting squares. They're perfect for wrapping several small items together or one larger item like a bottle of sake or wine.
Unnishiki (Flowing Clouds) is a design that represents cherry blossoms in full bloom as white clouds and vividly colored Autumn leaves as brocade. It is a typical design of Kyoto ware. In addition, running water has the meaning of purity, justice and protection from fire. It is also used to mean washing away bad things.
