A Daruma doll (Japanese: 達磨, Hepburn: daruma) is a hollow, round, Japanese traditional doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism.These dolls, though typically red and depicting the Indian monk, Bodhidharma, vary greatly in color and design depending on region and artist. Though considered a toy by some, Daruma has a design that is rich in symbolism and is regarded more as a talisman of good luck to the Japanese. making them a popular gift of encouragement.
Sashiko pre-printed samplers have wash-out stitching lines.
Do not pre-wash. The fabric measures 12.75" x 12.75" (31 cm x 31 cm) folded in half. 100% cotton fabric. Instructions are in Japanese and English with easy-t- follow diagrams. Needles and thread are not included.
The design is printed on one half of the sampler. The other half of the sampler has no design. Use the plain half as the backing for a pillow or other project, draw your own design on the second half or leave plain.
Stitch through both layers for a little heavier fabric if using for a quilt square. In Japan, the samplers are stitched through both layers, hemmed and use for tea towels or table decorations.
