Sashiko pre-printed samplers have wash-out stitching lines.  Do not pre-wash. 100% cotton - Finished size approximately 13" x 13".

This distinctive hitomezashi sashiko features traditional Japanese design. Following the stenciled lines on the fabric, your sashiko stitches will define the structure of the design. In a second step the thread is woven through the sashiko stitches according to a pattern shown in the instructions. The cloth is then washed to reveal the design clear of the stenciled lines.

Please note: the samplers are only available with Japanese instructions; the diagrams and images used are for more experienced sashiko enthusiasts.

3 skeins of sashiko thread are recommended:
2 for the stitching and 1 for the weaving.

The design is printed on one half of the sampler.  The other half of the sampler has no design.  Use the plain half as the backing for a pillow or other project, draw your own design on the second half or leave plain.  Stitch through both layers for a little heavier fabric if using for a quilt square, tote bag or other project.  In Japan, the samplers are stitched through both layers, hemmed and use for tea towels or table decorations.
